The history about how a Ducth couple became wine growers are told on the website of the domain:

"Domaine de Marotte - the name means 'favourite hobby' or 'fool's cap ' (!) - had been the property of the Van Dijkman family since 1987. When we got the chance to take over the estate at the end of 1997, we didn't hesitate for a second and seized this unique opportunity with both hands. Until then, we had been studying. Daan earned a degree in food technology, specializing in commercial beverage technology, where as Elvira specialized in horticulture. After our studies, we lived and worked in the northern part of the Netherlands. Daan worked for a large distillery while Elvira was a teacher at an agricultural institute. This professional
background now turns out to be a great advantage now that we are having our exciting wine adventure. We feel that there a is lot of truth in a Chinese saying:
If your hobby (marotte!) becomes your work, you don't have to work any longer...
Domaine de Marotte was our dream that has become reality!
We are delighted to share our enthusiasm with other people. Therefore, wine lovers are most welcome for a personal tour of the domaine by appointment."
