In 1952 4 winegrowers decided to found a coopérative
intercommunale in Rochefort du Gard. They named it "Chapelle Romane du XIème siècle, Le Castelas".
The first vintage was made in 1955 even the cellars were not finished.
By the inaguration of the cellars in 1956, Mr. baron Le Roy de Boiseaumarie
(the icon from Fortia) requested "moins de vins mais meilleurs"
(less quantity wine -better quality).
These wise words are to be seen on the walls of the co-operative.
