The domain was established in 1953, by the grandfather of the owner today. Gilles Ferran is then the 3^th generation at the domain.
Gilles Ferran is an educated oenolog from Montpellier and had assisted his father at the domain for 10 years, before he took over in 1999.
At the wine university he was classmate with Philippe Cambie and they work close together today. The wines from the new domain of Philippe Cambie, Domaine Calendal are made at Domaine des Escaravailles.

The name of the domain comes from the nickname given by the people of Rasteau to a priest in 17th century who wore a long black coat and owned the farm at the time. In Occitan, Escaravaille means beetle.

The domain covers a total area of 65 ha. with vines.
40 ha. i Rasteau, 7 ha. in Cairanne and the rest in Roaix, Villedieu and Saint Roman.

Cotes du Rhone Village Rasteau La Ponce
Made from 80% Grenache (80-years-old vines) and 20% Syrah (35 years old). A part of the wine is aged in barriques for about 12 months.

Cotes du Rhone Village Rasteau Héritage 1924
90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. 
This prestige cuvée comes from de oldest and best vines and is only made in very good vintages. 

Cotes du Rhone Village Rasteau Blanc La Galopine
45% Roussanne, 45% Marsanne and 10% Viognier. Aged in barrels.

Vin Doux Naturel
Is made in three versions: Blanc, Doré and Rouge.

100% Grenache.
