Domaine de Calendal

Teamwork: Phillippe Cambie and Gilles Ferrand

In 2004 Philippe Cambie purchased a parcel of 1,5 ha. at Plan de Dieu with old and good vines. The yield from here is from vintage 2006 vinified at Domaine des Escaravailles in Roaix by Cambie's friend from the years at the wine university in Montpellier, Gilles Ferrand. After the harvest 2008 Cambie will also be in possession of a neighbouring parcel of  3 ha. also with old vines.

Two friends, the oenolog and the wine grower. Both of them knowing a  lot about how to make good wine.

The name Calendal comes from a provencal poem by Frederik Mistral. A fisherman Calendal is deeply in love with the beautiful Estérelle. Just like the two friends' love for the soil of Provence and its fruits - the wines.

The vines are 80% Mourvedre and 20% Grenache.
The wine (Cotes du Rhone) is aged for 12-14 months in one-year-old barrels.
The production now is only 4.500 bottles.

If you visit Domaine des Escaravailles, you might be able to buy the wine here. The price is reasonable but the stok is limited.

The label is drawn by the daughter of Gilles Ferrand.

1,5 ha. behind Philippe is the vineyard of Domaine Calendal.
The field he is standing at will be included from the harvest 2009.
