The property has been in the family's possession for 5 generations. The name Montirius is created from letters of the names of Saurel's  three children: Manon, Justine and Marius.
In 1986 Eric Saurel and Christine joined Eric Saurel's father (Max Saurel) at the domain after having finished oenologic education.

Since 1999 all their vineyards have been certified organic by ECOCERT and biodynamic by Biovin.
The biodynamic principles play a decisive role for the work in the fields as well as in the vinification process in the cellar.

In 2002 a new cellar was establised - with three floors.

All grapes are destemmed. Fermentation and maturing take place in cement tanks placed at two floors and this way the racking is done by gravity.
Before bottling the wines removed by pumping to steel tanks at first floor for settling until the wines seams to be in the same condition as before the removing.

The domain covers a total of 61 ha.: 16 ha. Gigondas, 32,5 ha. Vacqueyras, 4,5 ha. Cotes du Rhone and 9 ha. Vin du Pays

Quote from the domain's web site:

"Origins of Biodynamy
In 1924, Rudolf Steiner (Vienna School Of Engeneering) noticed stress and boredom in the cities. He linked this phenomena to bad quality food.
As a result of this over a period of time and eight conferences, he defined this new agriculture to interested farmers.
These conferences are available in the " Lesson to farmers " by Rudolf Steiner.
This growing method can be resumed in three points :

  • Betterment of the soil and the plant with organic and mineral mixes.
  • Spreading of these mixes at precise moments in the year, according  to lunar and planetary calendars.
  • Ploughing and weeding the soil."
