Where the
domain is situated was once a monastery.
The domain has 9 ha
of Gigondas planted with 80%
Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre / Cinsault.
As the case at many domains the vines were planted after the olives
killing winter 1956.
Only one cuvée Gigondas is made. The wine is aged tank and barrels for
10-12 months.
From the blog: http://www.perrin-et-fils.com/beaucastel/wines_gigondas/index.html
(Dated 1.9. 2008):
"The Perrin family,
proprietors of Château de Beaucastel and Perrin & Fils, has acquired
the Domaine des Tourelles in Gigondas.
Located in the village centre of Gigondas, just below the market place,
the Domaine des Tourelles is a former monastery from the XVIIth century.
The vineyard covers 9 hectares in AOC Gigondas including a ‘clos’ (le
Clos des Tourelles) located just below the estate.
This will be a great addition to the vineyards that the Perrin family
already own or lease in the Southern Rhône.
Jean-Pierre and Francois Perrin, presidents of Perrin & Fils and Château
de Beaucastel declared 'We believe that Domaine des Tourelles has an
exceptional terroir, very sandy and ideal to produce great Grenache wines.
It is at the heart of the historical part of Gigondas and we will put all
our experience in viticulture and winemaking to produce the best possible
wine'.
Roger Cuillerat, former owner of Domaine des Tourelles declared 'I am glad
that the Perrin family is taking over the destiny of this historical
estate and I know they will respect this land in which I have put so much
work and effort’."
