Jean-Louis Giornal is a certified public accountant with his office situated in Orange. He is specialized in accountancy for wine producers and counts around 200 of them among his clients. In 1999 one of those clients wanted to retire and had no successors. Then Jean-Louis Giornal purshased his domain even though he didn't know much about winegrowing practice.
The name for the domain was chosen from the place where Jean-Louis Giornal was born and grew up, La Durbane situated close to the Rhone, in the old days a resting place for horses pulling ships upstreams from Avignon to Lyon.

The vineyards are covering 3 ha. Chateauneuf du Pape, 3 ha. Cotes du Rhone and 1 ha. Vin du Pays.
Giornal's clients are able to advise him regarding the work in the vineyards and the wines are made by one of them, Perrin et Fils at his place in Jonquieres
