This small domain with only 2,5 hectares of AOC Chateauneuf du Pape was established by Bernard Friedmann in 2001. He had some experience of wines as he had been buying wine at the producers for a negociant for some years.
The buildings has a history as a cooperage and have also been used for storage of silk in the days where this was an important source of income to a great part of the inhabitants in the town. The very old cellar is quite good for maturing  wines.
The name of the domain comes from Porte Rouge which in the papal times were one of the two entrances to the fortified village. The word "rouge" does in fact come from the local word "Ourouse" meaning the strong mistral coming from the North, and has originally nothing to do with the colour red.´
I early 2022 the domain was sold to the Feraud family at Domaine du Pegau

Chateauneuf du Pape
2018: 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre.
