The name of the domain comes from from a lieu-dit, Mont
Pertuis, neighbouring the famous La Crau.
The
Jeune family have deep roots in Chateauneuf du Pape and have been wine growers
in the town for seven generations.
Vignobles Paul Jeune today covers 45 ha. in three appellations. 17 ha.
are situated in AOC Chateauneuf du Pape divided in 18 parcels. 1/3 of the vines
are quite old - from 60 to 130 years old. 20% of the grapes are white varieties and
thus the domain is an important producer of white wines from the appellation.
In 2000 Jeune purchased a property in Cotes du Ventoux, Chateau Valcombe,
situated at the feet of Mont Ventoux in the village Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols.
This property covers 15 ha. and from here several cuvées from this appellation are
made.
In the 1995 a property in Cotes du Rhone/Vin du Pays du Gard
covering 13 ha. was purchased. From here wines called la Ramiere are made.
Since 2000 the well known oenolog Philippe Cambie has been advising
at the domain.
Chateauneuf du Pape Classique
Is made from 70% Grenache and from Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault and other
varieties.
For this cuvée all the grapes are destemmed before fermentation and goes
through a macerations period for 20 to 30 days.
The wine is aged for a period in cement tank and then in foudres or barriques.
Chateauneuf du Pape Secret de Gabriel
This cuvée is made from the oldest vines - 60-130 years old, and the yield
is only 15-20 hl./ha. The grapes for this cuvée are not destemmed, but
otherwise the blend and vinification process is as for the Cuvée Classique.
This Cuvée is made only in good vintages and has from 2006 been named Secret
de Gabriel in stead of Tradition.
