The domain was founded in 1890 by Anne Marie's grandparents (she was born
Achiary). In 1992 Anne-Marie
and Jean-Marie Astart decided to carry on the work and took over the domain from where
the whole production was sold to the co-operative. In 1995 they started to
bottle the wines with the name Domaine des Hautes Cances. Until 2000 Jean-Marie Astart
continued working as a psychiatrist. From then he became a full time wine grower
and in 2003-2004 new cellars were built.
Today the domain covers 17 ha. The vineyards are
certified agriculture biologique.
A range of different cuvées are made:
Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne Cuvée Tradition
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan.
The average age of the
vines is 50 years.
Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne Cuvée Vieilles Vignes
2005: 66% Grenache (100-years-old vines), 10% Syrah and 24%
Mourvedre.
Aged in 2-4 years old pièces for 12 months.
Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne Cuvée Col du Débat
The grapes for this cuvée is from a 5 ha. parcel in lieu-dit Col du Débat
with (2005) 50% Grenache, 23% Carignan, 23% Syrah and 2% Counoise. The yield is as low
as 20 hl/ha, and the wine is aged in 2-4 years old pièces for 12 months.
Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne Blanc
From equal parts of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Clairette and
Bourboulenc.
Cotes du Rhone Village Cairanne Rosé
Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Syah and Carignan. Saignée
Cotes du Rhone
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault.
Aged in piéces for 12 month. |
