Tourist in Beaumes de Venise

Beaumes de Venise is a very beautiful small provencal village with  2000 inhabitants.
Here the tourist will find what is expected in such a village:
In the old part of the village you will find narrow and steepy streets with houses telling about a certain prosperity of the inhabitants.
The main roads leading into the villages is nicely decorated with flowers
Two good bakers and a fine butcher is to be found as well as a small supermarket, Coccimarket. If you want to visit a big French supermarket you have to drive 8 kilometres to Sarrians.
Traditionally the area had many olive trees, and Beaumes de Venise was a centre for the production of olive oil with Moulin A Huile de la Balméenne. Where it was situated is today a shop selling fine olive oil.
You can nearly always find a place to parc your car at the market place.
At sunny days you can enjoy a refreshment at the brasserie/bar in the centre of the town. In the evenings you can visit two good restaurants Auberge Saint Roch and Le Relais des Dentelles not far from the centre.

.
The name of the town is probably well known in most countries as many people have tasted the famous dessert wine from the town Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. The main part of this wine is made by the cooperative but 10-15 private domains also make it and they have made great wines in this categorie.
Red wines have always been made there but it's not these wines which have made the town known in the wine world. From 2005 they have got their own appellation Beaumes de Venise. It has been seen before that such a promotion can bring surprising results. We consumers are waiting to see what the future will bring. The new appellation has put three very small communes on the map, Lafare, la Roch Alric and Suzette. It's not surprising because the best of the red wines come from fields situated there.

The biggest tourist attraction of Beaumes de Venise is maybe the surrounding area. A couple of kilometres to the East of the town along the route D90 from Beaumes to Malaucène discover what Provence can offer of points from which there are beautiful views to Dentelles de Montmirail, which reach an altitude of 734m compared to Beaumes altitude of 44m.
If you like hiking you can buy some maps at the tourist office showing 13 different routes. Some of them easy and some more demanding.
If you prefer to drive by car you can se a proposal here.
