The
estate of Manissy, built in the middle of the 18th century, belongs to the
Congregation of Missionary Fathers of the Holy Family. They planted
the first vines in 1916. They worked their land and their wines with
organic methods. The special Tavel “Tête de Cuvée” they produced
was used as a mass-wine during
religious offices. Modern consumers were not very interested in this
special Tavel aged in foudres for a long time. For some years only a very
small part were bottled, and the rest was sold to negociant.
Furthermore
the fathers became older and only a few were left at the place.
Therefore they decided to stop the winemaking and from 2004 a young winemaker, Florian Andre
rented the vineyard and the cellar from the fathers
for 25 years. He carries on
the traditional way of winemaking for the “Tête de Cuvée” for a small part
of the production but modernized
the cave and developed new products to broaden the range. He has also rented
vineyards in Lirac.
Today he is making wines from 30 ha. Tavel, 3,5 ha. Lirac
and 3,5 ha. Cotes du Rhone.
In 2009 he has conversion into agriculture biologique.
